WORDS ARE POWERFUL
We all have the power of words within us: to transform, to inspire, to influence, to capture, to engage, to make a difference, to speak
(or sign) and to be heard. Some of us are more competent at it than others; some just need a little help in finding, refining or shaping our words; some are too busy to find the time to get the words from inside our heads and onto the page, and some of us just need to be nurtured so our words can be coaxed from us, tentatively at first, until we find the confidence in our voice and discover our
full self-expression.
That is where I can help!
I had read the various descriptions of editorial services offered and had formed the opinion that a content editor would give an independent view of the novel with more depth than that which is given by friends. Shel provided the independent opinion I was seeking and I was pleased with the detail she put into the appraisal. She looked at the structure of the novel and pointed out where improvements could be made. There was enough detail to stimulate new thoughts regarding the book. I was very satisfied with the service Shel provided: it was encouraging for a debut author as well as professional. I know I will seek her services again when I finish my next book.

IN AWE OF WORDS
I am constantly amazed at the power words have to effect change in our lives and in the world.
I have been writing stories, plays, poems, journals, letters and songs since I was eight years old. When I was confused and needed to find clarity or simply when I wanted to play and create, I turned my attention to the written word. Later, in working with homeless adolescents and secondary school students, I saw the value of the written word as an avenue for self- expression and transformation.
Words have the power to effect change, to define worlds, and to transform. You understand this, right? We are kindred spirits, you and I, united in our need of words. That is why you are here.
FROM THERE TO HERE
It was my own thirst for words and a desire to articulate that directed my academic choices and shaped my professional career:
·Bachelor degree in Arts: Literature
·Bachelor degree in Teaching: English
·Master of Arts: Professional Writing and Literature
·8 years in book publishing, both editorial and production
·12 years in teaching English, from pre-school aged children right through to adults
·5 years of freelance work
·Previous Queensland Writers Centre Board Member
·Judge for Aurealis Awards 2017 and 2018
